DUTCH Hormone Test
Advanced at-home hormone testing to understand not just your hormone levels, but how your body is using them
If you've been experiencing hormone-related symptoms like unexplained weight gain, mood swings, brain fog, fatigue, acne, or sleep problems - and been told your hormone levels are "normal" based on blood tests - the DUTCH test can help uncover what's really going on.
What is the DUTCH test?
DUTCH stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. It's one of the most advanced hormone assessments available, using dried urine samples collected across a full day to build a detailed picture of your hormonal health.
Unlike a standard hormone levels blood test - which measures hormone levels at a single point in time - the DUTCH test looks at three things: your hormone levels, how your body is able to use those hormones, and whether they've been effectively detoxified and cleared. Issues at any of these three stages can drive hormone-related symptoms, but a blood test only tells you about the first.
This is why many women are told their hormones are "normal" when they clearly don't feel it. The DUTCH test fills in the gaps that blood work misses.
Why we use the DUTCH test
“The DUTCH test is great tool for people with female health conditions such as PMS, fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, fertility struggles - particularly those who have been told hormone levels are 'normal' in the blood. The DUTCH shows us a more nuanced picture to pick up hormone imbalances so we can put together a personalised protocol - addressing the root cause of hormone symptoms rather than trying to manage them blindly.”
- Peach Founder, Flora Budenberg (mBANT, CNHC, IFMCP)
What does the DUTCH test measure?
The DUTCH Complete analyses 35+ hormonal markers across several areas:
SEX HORMONES & THEIR METABOLITES
Oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone - plus how your body is breaking them down. The test reveals whether your hormones are being metabolised through protective or potentially damaging pathways, something no blood test can show.
24-HOUR CORTISOL PATTERN
Rather than a single cortisol reading, the DUTCH test maps your cortisol across the full day. The pattern of highs and lows can reveal what's driving poor sleep, difficulty managing stress, low energy, burnout, or anxiety.
MELATONIN
Your sleep hormone, measured to help understand sleep difficulties from a hormonal perspective. This is especially useful alongside the cortisol pattern to build a complete picture of your sleep-wake cycle and stress response.
NUTRITIONAL METABOLITES & OXIDATIVE STRESS
Including B12, B6, glutathione status, and indicators of microbiome health. These markers help your practitioner understand the underlying factors that may be contributing to hormonal imbalance - not just the hormones themselves.
Who is the DUTCH test for?
The DUTCH test is particularly valuable if you're experiencing symptoms of hormonal imbalance and want to understand the root cause - not manage the symptoms blindly. It's especially useful for:
Perimenopause and menopause
The DUTCH test is especially powerful during perimenopause, when hormones are shifting but symptoms can be vague and confusing. This is the stage where standard blood tests are least reliable - hormone levels fluctuate so much that a single blood draw often misses the full picture.
PCOS, endometriosis, and fibroids
These conditions are driven by hormonal imbalances that standard blood tests often miss. The DUTCH test picks up the nuances - like how oestrogen is being metabolised - that can make all the difference in building an effective protocol.
PMS and PMDD
The DUTCH test helps us understand exactly what's happening hormonally in the lead-up to your period.
Fertility struggles
For women trying to conceive, understanding the full hormonal picture (not just whether you're ovulating) can reveal underlying issues that are addressable through targeted nutrition.
Women on HRT
The DUTCH test is the most effective way to monitor how your body is actually using HRT. It shows not just total hormone levels (which fluctuate and can be unreliable) but how these hormones are being broken down and processed. This helps your practitioner assess whether your HRT is working effectively and safely.
Anyone told their blood work is "normal"
If you know something isn't right but conventional hormone level blood tests haven't found anything, the DUTCH test often provides the answers that have been missing.

A standard NHS or private blood test measures your hormone levels at a single moment in time. This can be useful, but it only tells part of the story.
With hormones, levels alone aren't enough. We need to understand three things: what your levels are, how your body is using those hormones, and whether they're being detoxified and cleared effectively. A blood test covers the first. The DUTCH test covers all three.
For example, you might have normal oestrogen levels on a blood test, but the DUTCH test could reveal that your oestrogen is being metabolised through a pathway associated with increased inflammation or other health risks. That's clinically important information - and it's invisible to blood work.
-
No, the DUTCH test is not currently available through the NHS. It can only be ordered through a private practitioner.
-
You collect four or five small urine samples on filter paper over a 24-hour period at home. It's simple, non-invasive, and there are no needles or clinic visits. The dried samples are stable and easy to post back to the lab.
-
Results typically take three to four weeks from when the lab receives your samples. Once ready, your practitioner will book a session to review your results with you in detail.
